SUSTAINABILITY Only 15 percent of the energy consumed by an incandescent bulb creates light; the remainder disappears as heat. Adapting the world to new lighting technologies would save an estimated 40% average in energy consumption. This would equal a cost savings, or business potential, worth $160 billion per year. This is the CO2 equivalent of 555 million tons, which is the output of 530 power stations. 3 The Advanced Area Lighting Group's technology research not only contributes to saving energy, which is at a premium in today's market, but also provides a higher quality of light. Some of the benefits of LED lighting include cool IR and UV-free beam, low energy consumption, high reliability and a very long lifetime. Compared with traditional incandescent light, LED lights operate longer and more efficiently. LEDs last longer than CFLs and will make bulb buying more like an appliance purchase than a throw-away item. CFLs contains mercury and pose an environmental hazard and not accepted at all recycling centers. LEDs operate with chips made of nontoxic materials and last for about 50,000 hours, compared with 1,000 hours for an incandescent and 6,000 for a compact fluorescent. The benefits to the construction, industrial, fire and safety community are numerous. Peli is aware that in today's fragile world, meeting the needs of today's generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs is crucial. TECHNOLOGY WITHOUT PAR During the last decade there has been a revolution in lighting and battery technology and Peli has been there from the start. New technology has played a central role at Peli since it's inception over 30 years ago and continues to this day. Peli's AALG is constantly improving battery technology that burns longer and weighs less than conventional batteries. Quick recharge, solid state technology and RoSH compliance ensures a robust product that complies with the most stringent safety requirements. LED, Night Vision, Shelter lighting and energy storage are not only a part of future work at Peli' s AALG, they can also be found in products launching this year. In searching for new applications for LED technology, Peli has created a system for bringing temporary light for interior applications. Known as Shelter lighting, it consists of a set of linkable high intensity LED cylindrical light heads which can run via a generator. These light heads can be independently switched and each offers 2000 lumens of diffused high intensity white light. The need for Night Vision lighting systems is also constantly growing, and Peli's AALG is researching and developing products for this market. Peli is continually working to fill the vast and untapped potential for energy efficient lighting products . |
